Rationale for final idea

For my initial idea I picked the Twirl idea, and I will be doing one print and one YouTube advert which I will need a group of people for as they will be playing Jenga with the actual game or they will use the twirl chocolate for them to use. The reason on why I chose this idea was because I would only need chocolates for this and I wouldn't need anything else. The children would love to buy it as they see that you can play a game out of it and have fun at the same time. Getting extra equipment wont be necessary as all I will need is Twirl chocolate. I

History of Cadbury

History of Cadburys Twirl:

I have chosen the chocolate Twirl because I am a big fan of this chocolate as I love the airy texture to this chocolate and when you eat it its not too thick  its just got the perfect texture to it.

Twirl was introduced by Cadbury UK as a single bar in the early 1970's and they repackaged it in 1984 as a twin bar. Twirl was invented in Dublin by Cadbury Ireland even though it was still produced in the UK it was marketed internationally since 1990 and now has become one of the best selling chocolate bars that Cadburys sell. The first launch of twirl was in 1985 as a single - finger bar until two years later they released the twin finger bar.

Here is what twirl used to look like in 1990 to early 2000's

Here is what Twirl looks like now:

This chocolate would be towards an audience who are ages between 10 and above as we dont recommend young children to be eating chocolates as much. This would really be beneficial for those who are looking for a quick snack to have or a little treat for themselves when they aren’t looking for something that filling for them. The packaging looks really different in the 1970 as the writing was really close up onto the wrapper.

Now the packaging has a really nice dark purple with the right amounts of space within the top and bottom and has the actual twirl chocolate on the wrapper.

Now the packaging has the TWIRL title a bit smaller and in the middle and has the picture of the chocolate bar that’s inside. The wrapper is darker with nice gold typography written “cadbury”

This advertisement is very special in its own way as it’s got a really nice way of selling its product as they are using an old school vibe to sell this as this advert was made 16 years ago. This advert is really nice as it shows a girl and a boy on the phone and the boy is so caught up on the phone he doesn’t realise till a few seconds later that this girl has eaten one of his chocolates. So he cuts the phone and goes with the girl and the slogan for this advert 16 years ago was “you can’t top the taste of a twirl” For the call of action there was no links or email or even phone number for the customers to call or find out about this chocolate however this is very understandable because this was made 16 years ago and i’m sure they didn’t have any idea of what social media was or how it was working.

The idea that I have chosen to go with is this Twirl idea where there is a group of friends/family who play jenga with twirls and whoever loses and tips the whole tower down means that everyone else gets a chocolate but them and this makes it interesting as Twirl is such a popular chocolate everyone wants to have a bite out of it.

Explanation of your prior experience of and learning around similar products

Before doing CTEC media I had absolutely no clue about how to use a camera let alone talk about it, I had no idea how to change the settings on the camera or how to take proper clear pictures. I would go to the lessons with no skill whatsoever to help me. However now I have a full understanding on all the skills and techniques that I need to make sure my work is at its best and this was all due to me taking media and exploring something I thought I would never see myself doing. Knowing that I'm still nowhere near being a professional and that I still have areas of improvement I still have a lot to learn as I go along the way. I have learnt how to create radio adverts, TV idents and how to edit short clips and make it look cinematic. Media is not the only subject where I learned about production and planning, doing CTEC IT has also helped me to develop a lot of planning skills as I have made planning documents for clients for a website making project which was done in Unit 9, In Unit 13 I was asked to plan a presentation video for a specific brand/company of my choice and that took a lot of planning such as creating; questionnaires, surveys and reports to help me gather my important information.

My experience of planning and production for a client was done through out a variety of units such as - Unit 14/16, Unit 3/22 and Unit 15.

What I have learned through these units are:

  • SWOT analysis
  • Script planning
  • Location recce
  • Shooting script
  • Creating story boards
  • Production logs
  • Task allocation
  • Mood Boards
  • Release forms
  • Animatics
  • Budgeting
  • Editing
  • Risk assessment
  • Potential client questions
  • Voice overs
  • Focus groups
  • Audience feedback
  • Creating short films
  • Radio adverts
  • Tv idents

I have used these skills and ideas all across the production work for the projects I had to create. One important thing that stuck out to me was in Unit 15 when I created an ident for ITV2, I made a Love Island related advert which was really fun to make, I had to make an advert that plays straight after the show or in between the breaks and it had to be so the audience are keen to continue watching their show. First I created a plan of all the ideas that I had in mind and then started to film which was then followed by a rushes log where I had to put in all the clips and then see which ones I keep and the ones I delete. Even though I was very happy with the way my ident turned out I still think I had areas I could have focused on such as:

  • Deadlines - I would usually finish a couple days after the deadline
  • Distractions - easily getting my attention taken away from work by small things
  • Feeling like its not good enough - Need to understand as long as I did my best that's enough
  • determination/encouragement - I need to be able to have the motivation to do the task and be determined to get it done to its full potential.
As long as I can focus on these aspects I think I will be able to improve a lot and make many changes that could benefit me in the future. However I also have areas where I think its important that I improve on immediately and these are things such as:
  • Planning - sometimes my planning isn't up to its full potential and can be very hard to follow.
  • Deadlines - Again I need to focus on handing work in on time.
  • Editing - I am not a pro, however I know that I can do better than what I do now.
  • Script Writing - Not really confident on writing scripts
  • Cinematography - Still have areas to learn on how to properly create good clips/pictures
  • Confidence - sometimes I get a bit shy and wouldn't put myself out there or put my ideas out there like I should
Although there is a lot of space for improvement, I think that my knowledge and ability for production and planning is pretty strong.

Response to the client brief

 Demographics

The audience are those who are interested in Cheeto crisp and Doritos and this is meant for catching the younger audience with the packaging design with the Cheetah and the Doritos flaming hot effect. Making sure that the audience is attracted to the advertising campaigns there will be items that will attract the younger audience or even the wider target audience. Having images or even text that will be appealing to the audience will be able to catch the eye of the audience or even the wider target audience and having a big audience means that the company will be able to sell more to make a bigger profit. The advantage of this advertising campaign especially for this audience is that Cheeto advertisements are usually on YouTube and on TV so this makes it easier for the audience to watch it or skip through it if they like. Making a print advert is also an advantage because you can place them around anywhere you like so in shops, supermarkets etc and this will get around to those who don’t even like crisps like these to see it. A disadvantage of this advert would be if they advertise it on the radio or put it in music apps and this is because not a lot of young people and teenagers listen to the radio and if an ad like that comes up while they are listening to music everyone will usually skip it to get back to listening, alongside that not a lot of people will be able to picture what it is that they are trying to sell.

Conventions

Mostly all adverts will contain a slogan just like Cheetos “it’s not easy being cheesy”. I will need to include a logo or a slogan in my work so that the audience will remember it if they hear or see it anywhere. I will also need some actors for a voice over as well as acting out if needed in my work. There will be a voice over throughout the advert as well as having appropriate song/ music in the background and it will have the slogan or logo in different parts of the advert and there will be a big finale in the end of my advert with the slogan.

Industry requirements

The campaign I will be producing and advert on will be Cadbury Chocolate, as this is a British company owned by Mondelez and is the world's 2nd confectionery brand. This company was manufactured in 1831 by John Cadbury as he decided to start producing on a commercial scale. https://www.cadbury.co.uk/our-story. An advantage of Cadbury chocolate brand is their unique taste and this has always been their selling point, alongside their high-quality ingredients to create their signature rich and creamy chocolate taste. https://www.studysmarter.co.uk/explanations/business-studies/business-case-studies/swot-analysis-of-cadbury/. The weakness with working in Cadbury is their limited product range even though customers enjoy their products the company could expand into making new products. One regulatory issue is that they will need to keep documents of people that work there and that they have been given permission to get involved. Making sure that their packaging and their slogan is their own is another important issue that will need to be looked at because if they are copying another brand they will be banned and shut down for stealing someone else’s idea and this also goes under copyright.

Mediums

The mediums that I will be doing is a poster and a YouTube video. On the video I will have an interesting storyline to grab the audience's attention and to make sure that they remember it. For the poster I will have a range of images and phrases to create it very eye catching, I will use adventure with a bit of humour in the genre idea of my advertisement as this will keep them engaged and allow them to want to know more and buy the chocolate as it will make them have the urge to buy Cadbury chocolate product.

consistency of the message of the ad campaign

The way the Cheetos advert has consistently kept the message and the idea of the ad campaign is by keeping the same slogan " unleash y...
